Infections or diseases that are transmitted through sexual intercourse are collectively called Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) or Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) or Reproductive Tract Infections (RTIs). Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Genital Herpes, Chlamydias, Genital Warts, Trichomoniasis, Hepatitis-B and of course, the most talked about HIV infection in recent years which results in AIDS. These are all some of the common STIs. Among these, HIV infection is the most dangerous. Diseases other than hepatitis-B, genital herpes and HIV infection are completely curable if diagnosed early and treated appropriately. The risk of STIs is higher among people in the age group of 15-24 years.
